Introduction to Operating System

An Operating system is a system software that controls computer hardware and software resources. It also provides a basis for all application programs and acts as an intermediary between the computer user and hardware.
The operating system allows programs to share memory, enabling programs to interact with devices.
The purpose of an operating system is to provide an environment in which a user can execute programs in an effective manner.
The primary goal of an operating system is to make the computer system convenient and easy to use.The secondary goal is to use the computer hardware in an efficient manner.
Introduction to operating system

An operating system is an important part of almost every computer system. The computer system is the combination of Hardware, Software and Data.A computer system is divided into four important components.
i. Hardware
ii. Operating system
iii. The application programs
iv. Users
Hardware:
It describes the physical aspects of Central Processing unit(CPU) and the I/O devices which provides the basic computing resources.

Operating System:
The operating system provides an environment in which other programs can work efficiently and it also provides the means for proper use of computing resources in the operation of the computer system.
Application Programs:
It is a program designed to perform some specific function to the user or another application program.Examples of an application include a word processor, a spreadsheet, an accounting application, a web browser, a media player and photo editor etc.,
Users:
The users are the person who utilises the computer system applications. The operating system will act as an interface between a user and the computer hardware.
